Markets

Critical operates internationally in a number of sectors including Aerospace, Defence and Telecoms.The company develops avionics software, satellite payload processing software, real-time operating systems and software for ground segment facilities, among others.

Software Verification and Validation

Critical Software is able to offer independent verification and validation of software processes to the most demanding assurance levels. Critical staff have supported DO-178B certification processes across several projects. Through its emphasis on R&D, the company has developed a number of tools and techniques for proving and improving reliablity. These include tools for robustness testing (e.g. Xception, for fault injection) and for RAMS analyses.

Near-Shore Outsourcing

With its developments centre in Portugal, Critical is able to offer engineering offload to a high-quality but low cost facility in the same time zone as the UK. With its UK-based engineers taking a leading role in such projects, the company is able to offer the best of all possible worlds to engineering departments struggling with short to medium term peaks in demand.

Products

Critical has developed a number of products in the areas of networking, high performance computing, work order management, inventory control, competence management, disaster prevention and test automation. An example of one of these products is edgeBOX, a network appliance that provides a complete voice and data network infrastructure to SMEs. edgeBOX is sold globally through ISPs and Telco’s who use it to supply managed services to their business broadband customers. It is also used to connect branch offices since all of the integrated services it contains are managed through a single, easy-to-use web interface that can be administered from a central Network Operations Centre (NOC).

Critical ensures outstanding software quality levels and project successes by employing strict project management practices, co-ordination & control structures and software engineering processes based on internationally recognised standards such as CMMI (Level 3), ISO 9001:2000 with Tick-IT, ISO 15504 (SPICE) and EN9100.  Please note that Critical Software Technologies follows its parent company's processes and procedures but is not yet itself accredited to any of the standards quoted.
