Critical Software is an expert in the engineering of safety, mission and business critical software-intensive systems. Over the past 12 years we have developed and fine-tuned engineering processes and methodologies to ensure the best possible results for our customers of high-integrity solutions. In particular, we have extensive knowledge of safety-critical solutions for the highest levels of integrity against standards and guidelines such as DO-178B, EN-50126/8/9, IEC-61508 and 00-55/56.

Safety-critical systems are complex and often require comprehensive management systems to support them through-life. We have significant experience in developing these systems, such as maintenance and asset management systems, to ensure that these critical systems are always used and maintained according to the precise specifications of the supplier. Complementary to these skills, we have also developed competencies in data mining and business intelligence allowing us to accurately analyse large amounts of complex data and deduce actionable results to enable managers and key stakeholders to make important and timely decisions swiftly. This has been applied in the area of Health and Usage Monitoring Systems (HUMS) to improve the maintainability of aircraft.

At Critical, we place innovation as the key driver to our continued success and growth. As a result, typically over 15% of annual profits are invested back into Research & Development activities and collaborative research projects with universities and partner organisations. For example, we are currently looking at ways of applying formal methods in a more cost-effective manner to high integrity projects across the aeronautics and transport industries. We also advocate the use of the Model Driven Development (MDD) paradigm and seek to use this across all our engineering projects and throughout the project lifecycle. We are gearing up to support the forthcoming DO-178C software guidelines standard which we see as offering significant cost savings through the use of more advanced tools, technologies and methodologies.
